Conferences
9th–10th January in co-operation with Data Protection Inspectorate a conference titled "Ethical Dimensions of Data Protection and Privacy“. Honorary patron of the conference: Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of the Republic of Estonia. The overall goal of the proposed conference is to present different aspects of the problematics of privacy and data protection. Video of the event.
24th-26th April in co-operation with the University of Liverpool and European Access Network a conference titled “Global Catalysts: The Potential and Ethics of Learning from Children“, was held as a part of the 7th FP project "Children as Change Agents for Science in Society (SiSCatalyst)". Colloquia
6th March colloquium titled "The Value of a Person. Handicapped People in Estonia" was held. The aim of the event was to discuss what are the values we need to address when it comes to people with disabilities and what do those people mean for Estonian society. Presentations by Tiina Kangro and Viktor Vassiljev, moderated byodereeris dr Olga Schihalejev. Video (in Estonian).
14th March colloquium titled "Ideologies in Language" took place. The aim was to discuss what is language ideology and whose ideologies are carried by language. Presentations by Priit Põhjala and Pille Põiklik. Moderated by Kristiina Praakli.
22nd April colloquium titled "Human Dignity" was held. Topics under discussion: what does dignity mean, to whom does it apply and what does it imply. Presentations by Nele Parrest and Naatan Haamer. Moderated by Toivo Maimets. Video (in Estonian).
2nd May colloquium titled “How True are Memories? A sympathetic yet critical reflection on the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission“ was held. Monika Reif-Hülser from University of Konstanz gave a paper on the narratives of reconciliation in South-Africa.
26. September colloquium titled “Is Ethical Entrepreneurship Worth It?" took place. Presentations by Priit Perens and Priit Rohumaa, moderated by Margit Sutrop.
Book presentations
31st January the book "Short Plays. Values Education Aid for Schools" was presented. Read more about the book.
29th August the book "The Doors of Estonia – From, Within" was presented with a workshop on the topic of Estonians migrating. Presentations were given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet, professor Margit Sutrop, and Estonian Consul General in Saint Petersburg Viktoria Tuulas, which were followed by a general discussion on the topic.
