The nature of emotions will be discussed on a conference
An international interdisciplinary conference “Emotions: Rationality, Morality and Social Understanding” will begin tomorrow in Tartu. The conference organized by Centre for Ethics, University of Tartu, the Institute of Philosophy and Semiotics, and Centre of Excellence in Estonian Studies will take place from 7th to 9th of September 2017.
The research fellow of theoretical philosophy Vivian Puusepp says, that emotions add color and meaning to life. “As humans, we are emotional beings. On pathological cases - when emotions are disturbed or disappear altogether - people can no longer cope in life,” added Puusepp about the importance of emotions.
Emotions as a department of knowledge is of interest for many different research fields. For example, philosophers, psychologists or linguists all study emotions. This interdisciplinary conference focuses upon the nature of emotions and the relationship of emotions to rationality, morality and to social understanding.
Keynote speakers are Kristján Kristjánsson (University of Birmingham), Gregory Currie (University of York), Mikko Salmela (University of Helsinki), Carolyn Price (The Open University, UK).
The conference is organized by Department of Philosophy at the University of Tartu, Centre for Ethics at the University of Tartu, and Centre of Excellence in Estonian Studies (CEES). This event is supported by the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research (IUT20-5), and by the (European Union) European Regional Development Fund (Centre of Excellence in Estonian Studies).
